                  1988: Two months at the Queen Elisabeth Hospital di Birmingham where he      learn new techniques on diagnostics and endoscopic therapy of desease of pancreas a biliary tract

                  1991: Two months at the University Hospital of Montpellier where he worked in practice laparoscopic surgery and liver transplants
Teaching Activities

 

During this years he actively partecipated since 1973 on teaching activities. Since 1973 he has practical exercises for students of the Course in Medicine with theoretical and practical lessons, in the operating room, endoscopy and emergency room.

He teaching digestive endoscopy in the course of Clinical and Surgical Pathology.

Since 1997 Giovanni Milito was the secretary of the post – graduate school of General

Surgery at the University of Roma “Tor Vergata” directed by Prof. Carlo Umberto Casciani.

Since 1990 he taught “General Surgery” at the post – graduate school of General Surgery and Plastic Surgery directed by Prof. Carlo Umberto Casciani.

From 1997 to 2000 he was coordinator the Master in Colon – Proctology at the University of Roma “Tor Vergata” directed by Prof. Carlo Umberto Casciani and since 2000 directed by Prof. AM Farinon.

Nowadays He’s director of the Unit of Coloproctology – UCP initially at the Hospital of Roma Sant’Eugenio and transferred to the University Hospital of Roma “Tor Vergata”.

Since the October 31 1995, he ‘s the adviser of the Italian Society of Digestive Endoscopy

Clinical Activity

From November 1 1973 to 1975 he actively partecipated  in the operating room, both elective and emergency,  and in the Department’s activities at the Institute of Surgical Clinic II at the University of Roma “La Sapienza” directed by Prof. Carlo Umberto Casciani.

From 1976 to 1980, research fellow at the V Surgical Pathology  directed by Prof. Carlo Umberto Casciani.

From 1979 he has been worked in the Digestive Endoscopy Division performing over 15.000 endoscopic exams.

From 1980 he worked as confirmed research fellow.

From April 1 1987 to March 2 1990 he worked at the Department of Clinical Surgery and Organ Transplants at the University Hospital of Roma “Tor Vergata” and Roma “Sant’ Eugenio” directed by Prof. Carlo Umberto Casciani.

From 1990 to 2001 he has been worked as assistant surgeon in the Clinical Surgery Division and Organ Transplant Service and he has been directed the Digestive Endoscopy Division at the University Hospital of Roma “Sant’Eugenio”

From November 2001 he’s Associate Professor of General Surgery at the Department of

General Surgery durected by Prof. AM Farinon.

Scientific Activity

 

The scientific activity of Professor Giovanni Milito is documented by publications in National ad International Journal. He has also participated in numerous national and international meetings and scientific contributions published in Proceedings and Journals. The scientific production focuses on organ transplants, surgery of the gastrointestinal tract, coloproctology and diagnostic and operative digestive endoscopy. He also participated, since 1992, in the surgical acitiviy and postoperative management of patients undergoing liver transplantation. His attention is always paid to the coloproctology surgery. In particular, it is dedicated to the treatment of malignant and benign anorectal disorders, chronic constipation and fecal incontinence. Further areas of interest and represented by the surgical treatment of inflammatory bowel disease with particular regard to the interventions of restorative proctocolectomy and packaging of ileal reservoir in patients suffering from ulcerative colitis.

The guidelines of scientific acitivity in which he has worked over the years are as follows: 

ª      Pathophysiology, surgical treatment of haemorrhoids

ª      Surgical treatment of perianal fistulas with special emphasis on the use of tissue flaps in complex fistulas

ª      Surgical treatment of pilonidal disease with transposition of pedicled tissue flap

ª      Treatment of anal fissure with particular attention to the results and complications of sphincterotomy

ª      Surgical Treatment of rectal prolapse with particular regard to the use of prosthetic materials and mechanical suturing

ª      Use of endoscopy in the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory and neoplastic colonic disease

ª      Treatment of bleeding and cancer of the esophagus, colon, sigmoid and rectum with Nd-Yag Laser

ª      Diagnosis and treatment of fecal incontinence by focusing on interventions sphinceteroplasty

ª      Surgery of the rectum and pelvic floor with an emphasis on the use of new tools such as radio frequency

ª      Multimodal treatment of colorectal cancer by focusing on the role of surgery radioimmunoguided

ª      Laparoscopic Colorectal surgery

ª      Physiology and immunosuppressive therapy in renal transplantation

ª      Gastroenterological issues of uraemic patients on chronic dialysis and transplant patients
